Physiotherapy Section
Three trained physiotherapy assistants have contributed in providing physiotherapy and follow up services to the amputees before and after fitment of prosthesis and also treat the other neuromuscular disorders like cerebral palsy, polio, paralysis etc.
The physiotherapy unit is well equipped with manual exercise facilities. The main services provided by the unit are joint screening, assessment, basic counselling, pre and post prosthetic physiotherapy care, gait training, wheel chair assessment, prescription of wheelchairs, wheelchair training and therapy for other neuromuscular disorders.
Consultant orthopaedic surgeon of Govt. Teaching Hospital, Jaffna visits the unit once a month to see the patients who need special consultation. Also, every Saturdays physiotherapy assistants visit the Govt. Teaching Hospital Jaffna to see the amputated patients for post amputation limb care, pre prosthetic care and refer them to JJCDR for early fitting of prosthesis.
